In 2007, Glenwood Canyon Kayak’s beginner clinic will be split into two separate courses. Those interested in trying kayaking for the first time can sign up for the flatwater Kayaking Basics course, with no obligation to attend the Beginning River Kayaking the next day. Those who have some paddling experience can bypass the basics course (with GCK instructor approval) and opt for the Beginning River Kayaking day. There is a discount, however, for taking both days simultaneously. Our Kayaking Basics course is designed for people who have never been in a hardshell kayak before, or those who need to brush up on their technique. The 3/4 day flatwater session will run from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. In this course we will teach basic paddling skills; strokes and concepts, bracing, boat tilt, and proper wet-exits. No prior experience in necessary. Kayaking Basics is a flat water course, and will always be followed by a beginning river course the following day, a great extension for the skill you have just learned. Dates:

In this full day class (9:00 am to 4:00 pm) we will cover turning in and out of the current, ferries, water reading and hazard evaluation, and applying basic paddling techniques to a river situation. Some river experience or previous Kayaking Basics course is required. Dates:
